Handmade porcelain cup, crafted through slip casting and saggar firing, decorated with copper wire, fine wire mesh, and wash layers of manganese dioxide and red iron oxide. Combustibles, including wood chips, dried grasses, flowers, and pine cones, enhanced the firing atmosphere. Along the rim, cobalt carbonate was applied, leaving deep blue accents and subtle fabric-like textures that contrast with the fiery reds and smoky blacks below.

Each cup balances the precision of slip casting with the unpredictability of saggar firing, resulting in landscapes of molten color, smoky traces, and cobalt-tinged horizons. The interior is finished with a smooth satin glaze, providing a food-safe and tactile surface for daily use, while the exterior remains raw and unglazed, preserving the unique saggar markings. Warping may be visible, a quiet trace of the cup’s journey through three firings — a reminder of the beauty found in transformation and imperfection.

Along the rim, cobalt carbonate was applied with muslin cloth, leaving deep blue accents and subtle fabric-like textures that contrast with the fiery reds and smoky blacks below.

This cup in the series has been further enhanced using a traditional Japanese Kanna carving technique, where the clay body is sliced and textured by hand, adding depth and a tactile quality to the mist-like surface. The interior is finished with a smooth satin glaze, providing a food-safe and tactile surface for daily use, while the exterior remains raw and unglazed, preserving the unique saggar markings.Warping may be visible, a quiet trace of the cup’s journey through three firings — a reminder of the beauty found in transformation and imperfection.

Each piece has gone through three firings to ensure durability. However, please handle with care to avoid thermal shock. Always warm the piece gradually—avoid pouring boiling water directly into a cold vessel. Although every piece has been tested for heat resistance, mindful use will help preserve its longevity.
