Caring for Your Pots
Each ceramic piece is shaped by hand, by fire, and by care — and it will thrive best when treated with the same attention.
General Guidelines
Each piece has gone through three firings to achieve it's aesthetics and functionality.
- Hand washing is recommended for all pieces. While many are dishwasher-safe, hand washing helps extend the life of glazes and surfaces, especially for those with textured, matte, or hand-painted finishes.
- Avoid sudden temperature changes (thermal shock). For example, do not pour boiling water into a cold cup or place a dish from the fridge straight into a hot oven or microwave. Always warm the piece gradually. Although every piece has been tested for heat resistance, mindful use will help preserve its longevity.
- Let your pieces dry fully before storing, especially if they have unglazed foot rings or interiors.
Functionality
- Food-safe: Yes, unless otherwise noted on the product page.
- Microwave-safe: Most pieces are microwave-safe, but occasional use is recommended. Avoid overheating or repeated cycles.
- Dishwasher-safe: Technically yes, but gentler care means longer life. Use the top rack if you do use a dishwasher.
- Oven-safe: Not recommended unless explicitly stated.
Display and Storage
- For delicate shelves or surfaces, consider placing felt pads under pieces with unglazed bases.
- Stack only where appropriate and protect surfaces with soft cloth or paper in between.
Outdoor Use
My ceramics are not designed for prolonged outdoor use, especially in freezing or damp conditions. Store indoors when not in use.
Embracing Change
Over time, some glazes may soften, darken slightly, or develop subtle patina from use — this is a natural, beautiful process in handmade pottery, echoing the wabi-sabi philosophy: beauty found in impermanence and use.
