John Mac Ceramics – Tear Drop Vase, Low Tide

A teardrop bottle vase, its rounded belly inspired by the bellied water jars of the Philippines — a form John grew up around, and one that happens to serve the fire well too: the wide shoulder gives saggar smoke room to pool and settle, deepening the marks where the body is fullest.

The fire sits lowest on this piece, concentrated at the widest point and leaving a long, clean stretch of pale neck above — the most restrained of the group.
