Walk across a moorland in autumn, when the heather has turned and the grasses have dried to rust and gold, and the whole landscape crackles underfoot. That is this cup.
The lower body is alive with texture — a dense, feathery field of rust, amber and burnt sienna. The dried grasses and leaves burned inside the saggar left their fine thread-like impressions directly in the porcelain, a meadow preserved in clay. Pine cones — more generous here than in any companion piece — deepened the palette into dark charcoal shadow at the centre. Two copper wire lines cut long and diagonal across the upper edge like fence posts seen from a distance.
Handmade in Limoges porcelain and fired multiple times. The exterior is completely unglazed. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.
Combustibles: dried carrot pulp, tangerine peels, generous pine cones, lime leaves, wood chips, dried grass, with wire mesh, copper wire, red iron oxide, manganese and cobalt wash.
Part of the Echoes of Fire series, Spring/Summer 2026.
