John Mac Signature Saggar Cup – Cherry Blossom Sky

Turn away from the sunset and look at the other side of the sky.
That is where this cup lives. The soft blush pinks and dusty mauves that drift across its surface are the colours of the sky as it shifts — not where the sun is dying, but where the night is quietly arriving.
This is one of the most hard-won pieces in the series — its colours invisible through the first firings, revealing themselves only at the very last moment. The blush was drawn out by the most unexpected companions: seaweed and banana peels. A frit wash applied to the exterior before firing gave the surface its subtle pearlescent sheen.

Handmade in Limoges porcelain and fired multiple times. The exterior is completely unglazed. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.
Combustibles: seaweed, banana peels, wood chips, dried grass, with wire mesh, copper wire, red iron oxide, manganese and cobalt wash.
