John Mac Signature Saggar Cup – Cobalt Mist

Stand at the edge of a field as the last light leaves the sky.
The pale cream of the upper body gives way to rust and terracotta — fine wispy markings scatter across the shoulder like bare tree branches against a winter sky. Deep charcoal shadow gathers at the foot.
Look inside and you will see not just the warm tone of the transparent satin glaze — you will see blue. Cobalt blue, drifting across the interior like a memory of sky. It was never planned. A neighbouring piece in the saggar carried cobalt, and as the atmosphere built, the cobalt simply migrated — unrepeatable. This is what it means to work with a saggar kiln.

Handmade in Limoges porcelain and fired multiple times.
Combustibles: wood chips, dried grass, with wire mesh, copper wire, red iron oxide and manganese.
