John Mac Signature Saggar Cup – Fractured Earth

This cup looks like the earth split open.
The pale cream of the upper body is calm and expansive. And then the lower half erupts — deep rust, dark charcoal, golden amber and raw porcelain collide in a composition that looks like exposed rock strata — layers of earth suddenly revealed.
In places, the manganese has vitrified in the heat, turning glossy and almost metallic at the lower body — not a glaze, but the oxide itself transformed by the intensity of the firing, catching the light like polished stone.

Handmade in Limoges porcelain and fired multiple times. The exterior is completely unglazed. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.
Combustibles: dried carrot pulp, tangerine peels, pine cones, lime leaves, wood chips, dried grass, with wire mesh, copper wire, red iron oxide, manganese and cobalt wash.
