John Mac Signature Saggar Cup – Open Moorland

This cup is a wide open landscape — the kind you see from the top of a hill.
The pale grey-cream of the upper body stretches like an overcast winter sky. Then the land begins — rust and scrubland terracotta, the warm golden earth of a dry riverbed catching the last light. Copper wire lines cut diagonally across like fence posts seen from a distance. The warmth and gold come from dried carrot pulp — more generous here — its sugars caramelising into luminous, honey-like earth tones.

Handmade in Limoges porcelain and fired multiple times. The exterior is completely unglazed. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.
Combustibles: dried carrot pulp (generous), tangerine peels, pine cones, lime leaves, wood chips, dried grass, with wire mesh, copper wire, red iron oxide, manganese and cobalt wash.
