Handmade porcelain vase- hand-built using slab and sculpted by carving and texturising the surface with vitreous porcelain slip. The piece was saggar-fired with copper wire, fine wire mesh, and layered combustibles including woodchips, dried flowers, and grasses. Metal oxides were used such as manganese dioxide, cobalt carbonate, red iron oxide, and copper carbonate, producing a vivid spectrum of colours — deep browns, glowing ember reds, bluish veils, and subtle metallic traces.
The surface evokes a stratified landscape: cobalt blues layered like twilight skies, earthy browns grounding the base like forest floors, and streaks of iron-rich red flowing across like rivers of fire. Organic smoke veils soften the transitions, giving the impression of horizons shifting under changing light. Subtle warping from the third firing enhances the sculptural presence, making the vase feel alive, as though shaped by natural forces as much as by hand.
The interior is finished with a transparent satin glaze, making the vase suitable for holding water, while the exterior remains unglazed to preserve the fragile saggar textures.
