Handmade Porcelain Saggar-Fired Vases (Set 1)

Set of handmade porcelain vases, wheel-thrown and saggar fired with natural combustibles, oxides, and metal elements. A wash of red iron oxide was applied before firing to enhance the burning and fuming of the wire mesh, enriching the surfaces with deeper reds and atmospheric textures. As the organic materials burned — grasses, flowers, woodchips, and other natural matter — they diffused into the porcelain body, leaving smoky veils, flame markings, and subtle imprints.

The exteriors read like landscapes in miniature: striated red bands echo distant mountain ridges, darker passages resemble shadows of valleys at dusk, and delicate textures from the mesh create horizon-like lines across the surface. Each vessel bears subtle warping from the third firing, adding a sense of movement and organic irregularity that enhances its individuality.

The interiors are coated with a transparent satin glaze, making them suitable for holding water, while the exteriors remain matte and unglazed to preserve the fragile saggar-fired markings.
